About the event

The pharmacology you measure depends not only on the molecule but on the system it is measured in. Functional volume control is the deliberate tuning of receptor density and system sensitivity to separate a ligand's true affinity and efficacy from the assay it was tested in, across agonists, antagonists, and allosteric modulators.


Dr. Terry Kenakin, Professor of Pharmacology at UNC Chapel Hill and Head Instructor of Terry's Pharmacology Corner, spent 25 years in GPCR drug discovery and helped build the quantitative framework the field now uses for efficacy, allostery, and functional selectivity.


This session is presented in collaboration with Eurofins DiscoverX, whose validated cell-based assays support GPCR discovery from early research through regulatory potency testing.
