Meet Dr. Terry Kenakin - The Pharmacologist Behind the Corner
With over four decades in pharmacology and drug discovery, Dr. Terry Kenakin’s impact spans more than 250 peer-reviewed publications, groundbreaking work in GPCR biology, and a career that helped shape the very tools modern drug hunters use today.
After earning his Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of Alberta, Terry trained under Nobel Laureate Sir James Black at University College London—one of the defining moments that launched his lifelong mission to bridge chemistry, biology, and real-world pharmacology.
He spent over 30 years at the heart of pharmaceutical R&D, holding senior roles at Burroughs-Wellcome and GlaxoSmithKline during its most transformative years. Terry didn’t just publish—he influenced how the field thinks, tests, and talks about drugs.
Today, he continues to teach and mentor at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine, pushing the boundaries of receptor theory, allosteric modulation, and translational pharmacology.
